Triumph has unveiled the bike people have been urging it to build for months. Following an experiment by its Italian importer to build a naked bike based around the classy-but- flawed TT600 sportsbike, the Hinckley company has released the first pictures of its new Speed Four.

As you can see, the bike has more than a passing resemblance to its 955cc big brother, the Speed Triple. The trademark twin headlights are present and correct, as is the wacky bugshield above the clocks. There's a subtler black paint option too, if you don't fancy the radical colour schemes shown here...

The oft-criticised motor has been updated in the shape of new pistons, cams and liners, and power output is a claimed 98PS - which should make it a leader in the class.

As will the chassis. Sharing frame and swingarm with the sweet-handling TT600, as well as fully-adjustable suspension, the Speed Four should be the finest handling naked 600 available. And with the firm's trademark brakes, rapid stopping should be guaranteed.

The bike receives its first public showing at the Brussels show in mid January. Price and availability are unconfirmed at the moment, but expect to pay a premium for the Speed Four's high spec when it does arrive.
